惠妮休斯頓的死震驚全球。猝死後，據傳藥物致死的機率最高，周刊《Star》、《In Touch》、《Globe》、《Us》…等持續報導有關惠妮的死。據了解，惠妮光是買古柯鹼就花了700萬美金（約２億台幣），死前還欠藥頭150萬美金（約4000萬台幣），6個月內竟吞下8千顆藥丸。

據傳她原本打算在葛萊美獎結束後，準備勒戒調養，不過死前，她還和母親通過電話，決定再好好「享受」一下，沒想到這也成了最後一次「享受」，下一秒即猝死於浴缸中，她死後，有惠妮的工作人員先行發現，搶救無效後，其他人開始忙著清理惠妮攜帶的古柯鹼。

一直以來受毒品、藥物以及酒精纏身的惠妮，不料到後來精神、行徑都變得怪怪的，猝死前幾天，惠妮經常與朋友聊到「上帝」，還曾說「想去見上帝一面」…等等的，似乎對自己的死早有預言一般。
